Default Code ?

So I was driving my 02 camaro and the car just shut off on my got a check engine light and when I ran it said.. Crank position sensor malfunction ..... Is this something you can just replace or should I be worried

possible the car just lost signal from youre crank position sensor. i would visually inspect it to begin with. maybe connector is loose or maybe the sensor just ent bad. just a suggestion

I agree! Visually inspect the sensor but I would just replace it considering the car's age.

Above the starter and you will need to remove the starter in order to gain access to the sensor.

it would also be wise to check the camshaft sensor as well it is possible that the cammshaft sensor to go bad causing a crankshaft sensor code with no camshaft code.this is due to them sharing the same curcuits,which would be there 5-volt reference and signal

The car will still run if it loses camshaft position signal but will not run if it loses crankshaft position signal. Generally if the car loses camshaft signal the car will continue to run and go off of the last known position of #1. Also, the CKP and the CMP do not share the same 5-Volt reference and signal circuits. The CKP low reference circuit is #1868 with a Yel/Blk wire and the CMP low reference circuit is #632 with a Pnk/Blk wire. Furthermore, the CKP signal is circuit 1869 with a Dk Blu/Wht wire and the CMP signal is circuit 633 with a Brn/Wht wire.

Dam this guy knows his **** ^^^^ thanks i was really hoping I had to remove the oil pan or timing chain cover just so I had an excuse to put a cam lol oh well
