Default No muffler ticket? (CA)

How much would a ticket be if I got pulled over for not having a muffler/too much noise? I'm in California and I want to take off the stock cat back on my '98 Z/28. Anyone ever receive a ticket for this or at least know how much it would be total?

Why would you want straight pipes? It's gonna sound too loud and you'll be asking for trouble

i've driven around in several cars with no mufflers and even smogged a car with no mufflers. as long as the stock cats are in tact you're safe. if you think about it an LM1 or LM2 is simply a little 14" resonator, not even a muffler.

if anything it would be a noise violation ticket, you can call your local PD and ask how much they run.

thats to pay the fine keep your stock stuff and your modded stuff seperate then go to chp to get it written off for free... however its a big hassle and a great way to get pulled over and cited for other things

I was told anything you do from stock cat location to the back. Is legal.
I had my 98z with no muffler. Never got pulled over.
I drive my ss with open cutout. I haven't get pulled over yet.

But if you get a ticket for that they could send you to state ref just to give you a hard time. That happened to my friend on his mustang.

get an exhaust cutout with an electric controller so you can have it loud and nasty or stock and quiet at the flip of a switch.

I don't want my car quiet obviously. If I wanted a quiet car I'd be asking about truck mufflers lol. I prefer the sound of my motor to the radio.

I have a 3" QTP cutout that's waiting to be put on, but I dno't want it on the P.O.S stock cat back haha. That's why I'm dropping the stock cat back and saving the cutout. That was my plan though.

They can give you a modified exhaust ticket even if it's after the cat. If they cite you for illegal mods, which some cops can't do if they didn't take the optional course, you will be sent to the state ref.

Run stock manis, stock cats, y pipe, and straight pipe, or just dump it at the under the back seat. I have stock manis, no cats, stock y pipe, LM1 dumped. Love it. =] got caught once, but that was cause of a busted tailight, so far right now, so good. =]
Im guessing it will sound like this, if this car in the vid is all stock. sounds good. =]
