Default Quick question about ls6 cam

Do I need to upgrade springs to do an ls6 cam swap? If so what are some good springs?

Yes. Which springs you need depends upon which LS6 cam you have. If it's a 2001, the GM yellow or blue springs will work. If it's the 2002-2004 LS6, I'd recommend a set of 918s.

Yes, you need at least ls6 springs with the ls6 cam.
I replaced my stock 100k mile set on my LS6 CTS-V with these in the link below.

yeah you will need new springs at least ls6 springs or better, also make sure that they are shimmed properly because ls1 valves are heavier then ls6 valves.

Stock lifters will work fine with it. That's was the only thing available back in the day (2001) when I did the first LS6 cam swap into an F-body, and they worked fine.

If you want to upgrade the lifters, then you could go LS7, Comp, Crane, or whatever brand X lifter is available. I'm running Crane in my current build, and those have been trouble-free.

Did you have to get your ECM tuned, or was the cam change minor enough to not need it? I still have a set of LS6 heads and the cam in my garage. I guess they would complement the LS6 that already in my 02.

Do you HAVE to get a tune? If you have the 2001 LS6 cam, then no, if you have the 2002-2004 LS6 cam, it's probably a really good idea... BUT you'll see much larger gains with either cam if you get a tune. In fact, you'd probably gain more from a good tune with the stock cam than you would from just swapping in a 2001 LS6 cam untuned. I went untuned when I did the LS6 cam the first time and it picked up about 12 RWHP, though the curve looked better. I sold that car before I could get it tuned, but I'm willing to bet it would have picked up another 20 or so had I done that.

Either way, I would get a tune. You'll be much happier.

A lot of people that run the ls6 cam just get the rev limiter bumped up higher since the ls6 cam does not gain any power until 5300 when the stock ls1 cam starts to fall off. If you install the heads then i would make sure to get it tuned.

yep tuning helps for sure, used the 02 LS6 here, w/yellow springs, 75k miles since installing and no issues so far.
