transmission rebuild

i need a rebuild for my 4l60e. it has a shift kit that i would like to keep. the trans will not go into third or 4th gear and i was told that the valve body in these transmissions tend to go out. is this true? does anyone know any rebuilders with reasonable prices? im a college student and dont have much to spend; already spent over 3 grand for driving

If i were you i would find a wrecked car with low mileage, get the trans from it & throw in a trans go shift kit. You should be able to find a good used 4l60e transmission for under 500.00 or even less on Craigslist or in the wrecking yard.
