CHP VIN Verification
CHP VIN Verification Has anyone had to go through a CHP VIN verification? I am trying to register my car in CA, previously registered in WI. The driver's door was replaced with a donor and the DMV wigged out when the windshield VIN and door tag VIN did not match. He said I had to go to CHP for verification, however this makes me EXTREMELY nervous. The last thing I need is the CHP snooping around under the hood or worse yet throwing my car on a lift...I don't need the car going to the crusher 
CHP will most likely pop the hood and spot your LTs (if your sig is accurate), good luck. They won't send you to the crusher, but they won't let you register your car for road use either. Do you already have a smog cert?
i had to take my LS swapped fc rx7 years ago. let me jsut say it was not legal at all. they asked for the keys, said theyd be back in 10 minutes. i was there for an hour when the cop came out with my keys and paperwork and said alright your good to go.
Lucky Duck man...My 2010 SS which somehow snuck past smog with LTs and high flows didn't make it past the chippers.
I am going to check for a partial VIN supposedly located on the A pillar on the passenger side behind the window weather stripping.
I will also peel away the incorrect VIN sticker to help avoid any confusion.

You can order a new door tag through the dealer but it takes a few weeks. You might want to try that and then go to a different DMV if they did not mark your car in the system.
The CHP will look for the alternate vin numbers on the car to see if they match. This may include pulling the carpet back or scraping coating of the frame. They may also need to put it on a lift to inspect for the number on some vehicles.
If they see the engine modifications they can cite you for it and it will flag your car in the system. Then you will have to return it to stock and take it to a state referee which is a whole nother pain in the ***...
