For rebuilds and minor upgrades I use Rob's Machine Shop in Hayward. Their prices are good and machining is on the spot. If you tell them how you want it done, they will do excellent work. They did 4 engines for me, 2 Olds, 1 BBC and my LQ9. No issues whatsoever.
For performance builds I used Gromm Racing Heads in San Jose. Gromm is more performance oriented and little more expensive, but Semir (the owner) is a damn guru when it comes to making power. This is the kind of shop you walk in and tell the guy your goal and he will build an engine that will exceed it. Top notch machine work and head porting.
