You're right Dan, mis-info. Cop needs to know the law and also needs to enforce it. Two areas where there is some wiggle room.

Mis-info, I don't think so! Don't we all wish! What you guys are forgetting is that CA just dumped a bunch of money to crack down on modified cars. What happened to someone 2 years ago has no bearing on what is going on as of late. Drive down the strip on any weekend, and you'll see atleast a few cars pulled over, with their hoods popped and a tow truck next to them. You wanna bank on the "chance" that through missed days of work and court dates, that you "might" get off on an illegal search and seizure. Good luck! Go ahead and leave it in plain site......see if I care. Don't say I didn't warn you though.

Driving through an area known to be frequented by street racers and getting pulled over randomly are two different scenarios as well.

I personally would be more concerned about getting caught off-guard as opposed to when I know there is a good chance I'll get pulled over.

All I'm saying is that is pays to be discreet no matter where you are in CA nowdays. The guy I posted about was not in a known streetracing area at the time, and was driving slower than the rest of the traffic. You never know, so it's always a good idea to hide the lines.

CA cops have a hard on for streetracing and car mods right now, and will have you pop your hood anytime they get the chance.
you must have misread my post... i believe i just repeated everything you just said except your friends story... i said once pulled over they can bust you for anything... including asking you to pop your hood

I thought I read it correctly. You said "you can't pop your hood for those." You didn't explain what you meant by "those", so I guess it's open for interpretation. I was just trying to say that you can be asked to pop your hood for "those." They can make you pop your hood any time you get pulled over. Nitrous switches, A/F ratio gauges, no front plate, etc. They will now even pull you over for a sticker and ask you to pop your hood. A sticker is considered "intent."

You can always say no. I can tell you 100% I will never let an officer search my car even if its 100% smog legal unless they have some really good justification.

It may cost more than getting sent to the ref in the end though.

Even if you have drugs in your car, if they don't have probable cause or permission to search it, its inadmissable in court.

Its the same thing. Its all in how good of a lawyer you can get and how much money you have.

If you have Nitrous & the shop passed you on smog do they get in trouble? At 1st the Smog Shop didn't want to smog me because of the Nitrous..I pleaded my case & told them, come on it's just sitting there & not doing anything & It's mainly for show(which it really is these days)..They ended up smogging it for me.

If I ever got busted for smog, my statement if asked would be 'I put my car in a stock configuration to pass smog'. You gotta protect the hookups.
