please help me Hey guys, I live in San Diego and I need to pass smog now. I have a 96 ws6 and the problem is that the ses light is on because I need an egr solenoid(at least that's what one friend of mine told me). I know the car will pass the sniffer and the visual test, but the stupid ses light is the problem. Even if I disconnect the battery, I was told that a shop can tell if the ses light is supposed to be on. I need a test only center as well. If I knew for a fact that the sole reason for the ses light is the egr solenoid, then I would fix it. However, I've been told that the computer has about 7 or 8 codes stored. The only active one that I am aware of is the egr solenoid. I just don't want to waste money on something that isn't going to work for certain.

Has your car had the recall fix done to the EGR? I had a 96 Z28 Vert, and back in 2000, GM issued a recall on the EGR and solenoid. I took it back to the dealer. Turned out the solenoid was bad but it wasn't throwing a code. They fixed it and the fix came with a 100,000 mile/10 yr warranty.
Also, if you had HP tuners or Tuner Cat (I think) then you could turn off or recall your codes. I'd check with the dealer and see if the recall work was done 1st.
