what do you mean cam install tool?
you mean the rods to hold the lifters up? you can get those from home depot I think the sizes are 5/16" or 3/8" or just use pen magnets

yeah, thats what i mean. so i can just get that size rod and that will work just as good as the tool? that tool looks like it has a flat edge on it instead of being round, will that have hold the lifters up different? where can i get pen magnets? ive tried auto zone, kragen, napa, home depot and they dont have em.

I got pen magnets from Autozone. a buddy of mine bought that tool only to have it not slide thru, we used metal rods from home depot to slide in, search on here for what size to use. On my car I had to use one of each size as one of them did not fit the hole, while on other cars it did.

when the rods are inserted it keeps the lifters up just enough from dropping but they are still exposed from the bottom if that makes sense. just make sure to spin the cam a few times to get the lifters off the cam
