A no-cat ticket would probably be considered a non-moving violation.

Just so you guys know, if you stay in cali over 90 days you are legally obligated to comply. That said, I have had gutted cats and no emissions gear on my car for almost a year now

Um, almost 99% positive military is exempt from that.

Better question would be what is the fine for running no cats. My suggestion is to run a lowered aftermarket suspension spring so they can't look under the vehice to check for cats. I do not know the answer.

i have heard $2,000-2,500 also so i am sure it is expensive. But i have never hear from someone who actually got one. The cop is supposed to send you to a smog ref and then if you do not pass from the ref then you will get a fine. but i do not know for sure if this is true

if they send you to the smog ref. you can just pay the ticket and not even have to go. if not then back to stock you go!

Actually we still have to get a smog check in order to obtain a base pass in California.

My SS is registered in Wisconsin and I still had to get it smogged to get a pass, the good thing is that you only need to get a smog check for the initial pass or whenever you renew it. My pass was good for three years, need to renew it in October though so that means smog check I'll pass though..

How do you guys usually go about recording sound clips to put on here? I'd like to submit a good file of my new exhaust but I'm just a little unsure what to use. I do have a newer Canon digital which does videos, would that work or would it distort the sound too much?

Just don't do what everyone else does in trying to make their car sound extremely loud: put the camera too close. You'll max out your microphone and all anyone will hear when they listen too it is one loud sound, nothing distinct. Ideally, you'd want to hit the decibel max on a rev, that way we could hear everything.

Good to hear from someone who actually knows. The DMV provides "hypotheticals" and "theories".
