Default Well I got A trip to the CA Ref!..

I was on my way home from work when I was on Tully heading east...Just as I passed over White road and about 1/2 mile on the right side there were two cops using the gun and waving people over to the side...I was doin 46 in a 35...Anyway, to make a long story short, the cop asked if I could pop the hood...I did, and he asked if my headers were carb legal?..I said ya, but the carb number is on the underside of the header so you cannot see it unless you get under the car...He then proceeded to ask if I had any cats?..Of course, I said yes...
He didn't give me a speeding ticket, but gave me a fix it ticket for no front plate, and also a trip to the state ref for my headers, and exhaust...Looks like I am going to have to put everything back to stock...Any other options out there?..

Wow sorry to hear that. This kind of stuff seems to mainly happen in Norcal.

Hopefully it doesn't become popular down here.

So do you think if you were going the speed limit they wouldn't have waved you over?

Probably not...I think I was in 4th, so it was somewhat quiet...

If I told the cop that I had no cats I think the fine is $2500 or so...I was pretty straight with the guy besides some BS here and there...Was playing more dumb than anything...I told him that I got the headers off of a web-site which told me they were 50 state legal...He asked if I put them on myself and I said no...I had a shop put them on, thinking that he would assume that the shop would only do legal stuff...Haha
The only stock parts that I have laying around are the cats and thats it...If anybody has there stock stuff that they are willing to sell or let me borrow, let me know ASAP...Thanks...

Haha, I thought about it, but I didn't want to take my chances...Come to think of it I would have preferred a ticket at this point...
I know a lot of cops at my work, so I wonder if they know any judges that can just dismiss the case...I will keep you guys updated...

This is the very reason I've been thinking about disabling my hood latch and making it electric (with a hidden button). I already have all the stuff to do it...

Then if they want to pop the hood they can pull the latch and it won't do ****. Most they can get me for is a fix it ticket but they couldn't send me to the ref if I say my **** is stock and they can't see it to prove otherwise...

Thats funny that you mention that, because I was thinking of the exact same thing...What if I told him that my hood release cable was broken, and I couldn't open my hood...Thats of course, if I had this little mod already done...

That's good to know. I fear the day they pull us over without probable cause.

See, that's where I may have screwed-up. I would have told him I did the work so I would continue playing dumb. Glad that part worked out for you.

What headers do you have? Do you have hollowed out cats or if you looked at your set-up, is there a bulge where cats would be (or smooth)? EDIT: I see you have LTs to TDs.

You could always just pay the fine and have your car labeled a gross polluter.

that kinda sucks your going to have to get back to stock.. a buddy got pulled over in his civic with motor swap and they check EVERYTHING! and then they can issue a fine afterwards if you cant get it back to stock within a certain time
