Quick SMOG question?

Do most places over-look a lid on an otherwise stock car or should I put the stock one back on? On the CARB website, there is a note that basically exempts anything in front of the MAF so I am confused.

Not many places will hassle you for a lid, I have seen them hassle cars for having a breather on the tube on the newer ls1s instead of running it to the lid but with just an aftermarket lid you should be ok.
