Default Buying an Fbody

Well I am going to be in the market for a new car pretty soon. Back in high school I had an 01 Firebird with the 3.8L/auto (I know...). I only had it for a year and went back to pick up trucks.

Here is our situation. Ive got an 04 Dodge Ram. My wife has an 02 Firebird vert. with yet another 3.8L/auto. We are expecting a baby in the next couple of months. I want to trade my truck in on a 4 door car or small SUV. Then I want to trade her car in and get something for myself. I am really thinking about getting another Fbody but it has to be an LS1/T56 car. Im not settling for anything less than what I want this time. I have found some at dealerships for about $10-12k with anywhere from 60-100k miles. Im a bit leary about buying a car with 100k on it but I hear that these motors are pretty stout if taken care of. There are some better deals I have seen from a private seller, but how can buy one without cash? Is it hard to get a loan to buy a car from an individual? Id rather do that and skip the dealership bs if its not too hard.

Thanks for the help,
Joey

You can find clean ones for about $6000 - $7000 pretty easily now from private sellers with about 70K on them. I'm not sure about how banks are in regards to loaning money out for cars made from 2002 and later, but I think they might only go by the trade-in values from NADA for private sellers.

I'm in the process of buying a H/C/I LT1 and found all this stuff out recently.. They would only give me trade in value for it because of its age which didnt help all that much because it was worth more than that.

You could take out a personal loan though and not a auto loan for it. The interest will be higher, but you could get the money you needed.

on the loans you will just hafta try some out and see how it goes i had a little trouble with the banks when i got mine cuz they wouldn release my other car for a while after i had sold it and payed it off. and the ls1 is def alot more exciting than the 3.8 although you will be buying alot more gas and some tires here and there, my fiance has the 3.8 bird and i have the ls1 and they are totally different, my ws6 has alot firmer more responsive and actually smoother ride and has way less body roll not to mention its much quicker/faster the only drawback is the gas mileage difference but the ls1 should still be the same or maybe better than your ram. i come out of a 97 mustang gt myself only been in an f body for a year now and i like it alot better before eveyone wanted to race me everywhere i went no i just get commnets on my car and not everyone else i see has one which is a huge plus also

Thanks for the responses. I do enjoy driving F-bodies. I like driving her car, but I will never have another V6 for myself.

These LS1 cars get probably double the fuel mileage of my truck, so that is not an issue at all. Ill just keep my eyes open and see whats out there. I just want to find the right one.
