1995 Trans AM (needs work)
Hello,
I have a friend of a friend who wants to sell his white 95 TA but it has BLOWN Head gaskets. He is asking $2500 for the car and it has 160K on it, auto trans (bummer), and power everything, T-Tops. The body is near mint condition though. I'm assuming a couple hundred in head gasket set so do you think it is worth the buy? I would have under $3K into it I'm hoping. Or what is a reasonable offer to throw at him?
Thanks

I hope you are kidding?! Less than $3,000 into a 14 year old beaten F-body with over 160,000 miles??? You'll be up to $5,000 in less than a month. Things are going to break quick. With that in mind, if you even want to bother, give him $1500 cash and walk away if he doesn't take it. I hope the tires have a few miles left on them too. Even putting a set of mongrels on the car will run you $400. Nothing worse than a 'money pit' car. Be careful! Much nicer cars are available for $5-$6,000 that don't need too much with many miles left in them.

Yeah I was thinking I would offer $2K at the most. I see nice LT1's going for $4-$5K average so I thought it wouldn't be a bad deal of I did the work myself. I don't think it would be a terrible purchase considering the body is in great shape. Those LT1's can easily last over 200K miles as well...we'll see. Thanks for the advice.
