Default Value of 99 HOSS

Hey guys, just looking for some feedback on what a 99 Hugger Orange SS would be worth? My buddy is selling his, it's a 40,000 mile HOSS convertible six speed. The car is built, believe it has a World Products milled block raced out,
Viper Spec tranny w/stage 3 clutch, Moser 4:10 rear end, welded sub-frame connectors and is set up with Nitrous Express. The car is cherry from the original paint to the interior to the undercarriage. I know some people that are in to camaros and collectors don"t really care for the modifications but with limited production numbers of hugger orange camaros in 99 was just wondering about what something like this would sell for, cause on cars like this you pretty much throw the blue book value out the window. any feedback would be appreciated

You are generally correct about the price guides for a car like this. It is not your average car but they will be a tool to use in determining a price. You are also right about collectors not being interested. The 40k miles is a little high anyway for many collectors, never mind the setup. That nitrous and mods are for a very, very limited younger buyer's market no matter what color the car is. The color is always a 'plus' but may not bring the same premium that a stock version SS would bring. As stated dozens and dozens of times here, this younger market usually doesn't have the financial means to pay big $$ for any car. This is where the price guides come into play. They can't be ignored.
This SS 'vert is obviously worth good money but realistically what would someone pay for it?? Two different questions. My T/A is worth $18k to me (can't replace the one owner meticulous care or color combo) but I can only sell it for $14k on a good day. I may not even get that to be truly honest. The Camaro is in the same situation. It could be worth $20k to the owner with all the care and money invested but can he even sell it for $13k?? Are there buyers looking for this car for even that low amount? There may not be. Many people will scoff at that but they aren't showing up in your driveway with cash in hand either. Talk is cheap.
The owner will have to go on a fishing expedition to see who is biting. Start any ad off with a 'wishful thinking' price, like something in the high teens. If the phone rings, great!! You never know who is looking for this exact car at any given moment and who may actually have the cash. If the ad and price are dormant after a week or two, then start lowering the price until some inquiries are made. At that point you have hit the sweet spot where the car will probably sell, or a decent price will be offered. Best of luck!!

*** I wanted to show you two examples of actual sales/auctions and the prices of two very different 1999 Camaros. The first car is heavily modded 'vert and the second is an ultra low mileage 'stock' example in HO.

Here's one of the best remaining HOSS verts left - a 6 speed with 5K miles. The dealer is asking $29K so it's not cheap. That's priced up there with similar mileage '99 WS6 and '02 Anniv verts. I'd have figured this one maybe in the lower $20's. In any case it's a top notch example. An all original 40K vert I'd figure in the mid to upper teens. The mods may not add or subtract anything to that price at the 40K mile level, though numerous potential buyers will be eliminated. Most of the premium that a HOSS vert would bring is probably lost with mods as extensive as this. It's no longer a factory HOSS. I see the same thing when nitrous and sub-frame mods are added to '99 WS6 anniversary cars. Those mods become basically free and the pool of potential buyers shrinks dramatically.
