Default 1999 Camaro SS

1999 Camaro SS, M6 w/ T tops
84k miles
Bone stock except skip shift eliminator and window tint
Very clean car, very nice pain, never driven in winter
Receipts for pretty much everything from 4k miles
New clutch 6k miles ago, new tires 1k ago
Seller is asking $10000 but said he would drop to $9000 after I offered $8500 cash.

Its really hard to gauge the price of this car, as Kelly Blue Book is insanely low (like $4500ish), and NADA says $7850 clean retail. Usually these cars pull a little bit of a premium over the books.

I feel like $9000 is a little too high, opinions?

I own a 17K mile, 2 owner 1999 SS M6. It's worth around $12,500-$13,000 imo. So figure if your specimen is an exceptional 85K miles, what deduction are those extra 68K miles worth to you?

The price guides might not be more than $1K-$1,500 in your car. Most of that comes from the $1K for an M6 premium that is not included in the price guides (Auto and Man have same price which is bogus). Condition could swing the value of your car several thousand dollars. $9K would not be outlandish for a "perfectly" operating vehicle that "needs nothing." But what are the odds of that happening? I add $1,500 to the NADA "excellent" price and come up with $7,800 "private party" purchase....which is obviously a ways short of full dealer retail price. So at $8500 cash your offer was pretty strong. You just might have to end in the middle at $8,750 since you already made the offer. If you think this "is" the car for you, then work out final differences. $9K would certainly be all the money....but, could be worth it for a cream puff, 1 owner, unmodified, and well documented/maintained car. You can buy a 17K mile 1999 SS for $13K or this 85K one for $9K. How those extra miles are valued is an individual thing.

There's another WIW thread with a 2002 SS M6 with 85K miles this week at I put at in the $8K-$10K tops range. Just the 3 model year difference drops the price another $1,500-$2,000. I think that seller should have jumped on your cash offer. They probaby have the usual emotional attachments including that there isn't another one "like theirs" anywhere. Some parts of the country don't have many "clean/garaged in winter and bad weather/rust free" M6's available. The availability in your part of the country plays a role. Sounds like you find the right car....just have to be satisfied that the price you pay doesn't make you uncomfortable. $9K and all fluids/filters/+ routine maintenance are up to date? That's not too bad as you can easily spend $500-$1000 on that stuff. Many sellers don't bother to sell a car just after putting on fresh tires....a plus, as long as you like the tires....or that will be another $600 out of your pocket down the road.

Thank you for the thought out reply . The car hasn't sold yet so I'll just remind him my offer is still on the table for the time being.
