Default Is this person high??

so I sold my 2000 WS6 and bought a 2011 Audi S5, love the car but I want a firebird or camaro to tinker with and this is in my price range. This dude will not send over the door codes and we've established that its been repainted. he's saying its a true WS6 but the wheels don't line up because those are speedlines not the 17inch ws6 wheels. Dude is being super vague and honestly kind of an *******.

Scratch off that seller. There are more cars you can look at w/o putting up with a seller you might not trust. The only door code that matters is the one that confirms it as a WS6. That takes all of 2 min for the seller to verify.

The ad has been deleted at this time, so I can't check it for details, but Speedlines would be correct for an '01-'02 (non-CETA) WS6 car. Though, as a side note, some of the very early 2001 examples did still come with the "QF6" style wheels from the '96-'00 cars (and, as further verification, most of those examples also came with the older glossy window trim). Build date should be very early in the 2001 model year if this is the case, but wheels swaps are easy and common either way.

Regardless, Firebrian is absolutely right - forget that seller if he's vague about the original factory content and refuses to send a picture of the SPID. Buying a used car is always a gamble of sorts, so at the very least you need to feel that the seller is being honest with his answers and the presentation of the car. Sounds like it's time to move on.

Not sure why the seller would think it's a WS6, it's obviously not, but he did mention having limited knowledge so I guess he's just not familiar with these cars in general.

The paint looks rough up front, but at least it still has some shine to it. The interior shows it's age, but nothing unexpected for 165k miles/18+ years. The top actually looks pretty decent from what I can tell, but that would be my greatest area of concern specific to this car (the top and how it operates - could have plenty of issues at this age/mileage.)

With a budget of $4k or less, you won't find many "nice" examples, if any. I would expect all of them to need some kind of work at that price (and/or be cosmetically rough, and/or have title issues). If it were me, I'd wait until I had a few thousand more and then broaden my search to more expensive/nicer examples.

The overall plan is to drive for a bit and then just turn it into a monster. Probably should of mentioned that! This is why my budget is so low. I had a 2000 WS6 that I sold for my Audi and upon texting with the seller, you're right, he's not very familiar with the cars but to me 4k is a little steep especially the condition of the exterior and surface rust etc... Anyway, overall goal is to create a monster car that looks like a regular vert T/A.
