Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting into the market for a C6 Corvette and I'm debating on selling my T/A for the down payment. To start off it's an all original 2 owner car with neutral interior and the T56. It has the premium leather lumbar seats, a double din head unit, and the optional BBS Hurst short throw shifter. It's very clean and all stock [with AIR/EGR] besides an air lid [still have the original lid too]. What should a car like this go for? I have the carfax to provide assurance that its truly a 2 owner car plus a clean title to boot. Paint is very good with no chipping or the infamous sail panel bubbling. The only flaw is 162,XXX miles from Texas interstates [according to the OG owner] and also claims the T-Tops have never been removed [I haven't taken them out just in case its true]... Thanks guys and gals!
I"ve owned my C6 for about 2.5 years now and I still have no desire to sell my Trans Am that I have owned since new. I have not found another car that compares to the unique feel of the Trans Am. It may just be me but I'm sharing my thoughts since you asked. I obviously like owning both and I take them both to car shows as well (see photos).
I dislike having to say that your Trans Am will bring next to nothing with those miles. If you still enjoy it, keep it, because I think you will miss it. It is not worth missing your old ride for minimal money. If you don't have the room or can't afford to keep both, that's another story. Good luck with your C6 search. There are many low mileage one owner examples out there to choose from. Do NOT settle. If you want an LS3 over the earlier LS2 engines, get it!
Mileage hurts it, but my guess is around 8-10k on the low side, possibly upwards of 12k if the mileage is really the only factor that counts against it. It looks extremely good for a 162k mile car in the pictures. However, condition of the tires, maintenance items, and how well the car shows in person makes all the difference. I usually spot many things on these cars the sellers never mention.
Found myself in an identical dilemma back in 2015-2016 with my very similar 99 TA w/HCI etc. Ended up keeping the TA refreshing the car.
I would look at what people are asking for similar cars in your area on websites like Carguru etc to develop a feel for the local market. I found a 30,000 mile 1 owner Formula for sale for less than $11,000 in my state in less than 30 seconds. Out of state 166,000 mile 2000 TA 4 owner car for $5,995 - doubt the car isn't in great condition. I think that sort of sets a rough low and high boundary for my area. Yours might differ somewhat depending on where your located.
Condition is key but many people will focus on the mileage and try to hammer/ low ball you down to around $6,000 to $7,000 due to mileage. I've had several friends that should know better pay top dollar for lower mileage cars in poor condition due to lack of maintenance vs being willing to pay a fair price for a higher mile excellent condition car with lots of maintenance records.
Find the boundary prices for your area first, then value really depends on how fast you want to sale. If your area is like mine something along the lines of:
I'd value your car like this:
Fast sale ask $7,500 take first offer of $6,800 or better
Slower profitable sale ask $9,500 take first over $8,500
Snail sale $11,000, first offer over $9,500
