Question about Wheel weight...

Default Question about Wheel weight...

I have an '06 C6 with stock silver 5 spoke wheels.. they weigh in at 22lb each..

I am getting wheels that may be a little heavier.. like 26front and 27 rear..

Willthis make a difference as far as rolling mass?? will 18lbs make that much of a difference??

Let's face it, we all know it won't help it any, but on a DD I doubt if you will notice. Usually have to get to the track with back-to-back runs to document the change.

I guess my question is if I'm run someone from a 2nd 50mph roll, will there be a difference? I dont track race, i just have the occassional run on the freeway..

Well, I never had anybody ask it that way. I build lightweight aluminum wheels for racing, people tell me all the time that they can feel the difference when they switch from a heavy cast/OEM type wheel (usually around .2 in the qtr mile), so yes I would bet that you could feel it.

Depending on your senses, it can be felt. Braking distances will be longer, slower acceleration, suspension reaction etc. all will change. This is why when I discuss for example our drag wheels comparing a 16lb wheel to a 10lb wheel is quite large. The center of mass is different as well with larger diameter wheels...this will show an impact on performance.

well, if it is a taller tire will it not help him as far as roll racing goes..


shorter tire, quicker car(better e/ts less mph)
taller tire, faster car(worse e/ts better mph)

so if it is taller than what you have now, even if heavier, it should offset...

hope that helped... if im wrong, someone correct me please!
