Default Question about road comfort

Hey all, I am running a Strano/Koni setup in the glorious land of NY/NJ. The potholes have simply become too much to bear and I need to switch my 18" wheel setup. My buddy has the same setup with 16" wheels and it is significantly smoother. My question is this: Will a 17/18 setup solve my problem or should i opt for 17" all around? I assume the grunt of the problem (harshness on bumps of course) is from the front end, so this should solve it. Has anyone done this before or experienced similar results? Thanks

I think you need to worry more about the profile of the tire more than the size of the wheel if you're worried about comfort. I mean if you go 17" and use a tire with the same profile as your 18" wheel had, you'd prob feel almost the same amount of road harshness. Your friends 16" wheels feel better probably because his tires have a ton more sidewall than your 18" tires.

Yeah, I granted that the 17" wheels would provide for more tire sidewall than an 18". An 18" is low profile while an 16" and 17" is not

Dropping the tire pressure should make a noticeable improvement. I know when I've had my tire pressure set around 35-36 psi with my 18s, the ride quality was terrible!

yeah i had it originally at 30, brought it up to 38, then down to 35. i could feel a difference, but it was not even close to as good as my friend's car with the smaller wheels. i think the 18s have to go. they are beautiful wheels, but it is time

What brand/model/ size tires you have on there now?
The reason I'm asking is that my falken 452s 18s ride very similar to my factory 16s, I can notice a slight increase in impact harshness from the 16s to the 18s , but that's it.
It could very possibly be just the brand/model of tire, not the fact they're 18s.
