Default New Tire Suggestions

Well, my current Dunlop SP Sport 5000's (which I have liked) are about worn down and I am looking for something to replace them. They will be going on a 2001 SS which has minimal engine mods now, but may soon be getting headers/heads/cam. I want to go w/stock size of 275 40ZR17 unless there are reasons to do otherwise.

I am not looking for all out drag or track performance, just very good All-Season wet and dry performance for the street, very good hookup, good treadwear, and a relatively quiet ride. Price is not too much a concern.

I should have said "as good as possible." I guess I'm just a noob, but is it bad to run a performance "summer tire" in a climate where winter temperatures fall into the teens?

Also, on tirerack.com saw the michelin pilot sport a/s plus for a pricey $219/tire. I wonder if they are worth it?

With tires you get exactly what you pay for....I have tried most of the good high performance tires out there (michelin, b f goodrich, yokohama, and goodyear) and have found that the best all weather high performance tire is the Goodyear F1 GS-D3...it sticks good when it is dry and it is impossible to hydroplane it when it rains...plus it wears well too...they are not cheep but they are very good..if you buy them you will not be sorry....I drive my hot rod 30,000 miles a year and tires that have good traction and corner well are a high priority with me.

I have an '99 SS, and I am running the P275/40R17 BFG Comp T/A KDW in the front and the Comp T/A KD in the rear. I think that this is a great combination for me. Of course, I have never driven my SS in the snow.

I have Nitto NT-555's in the rear(315). I like them a lot for a street tire.
