Default Hard or Soft Sidewall

Ok, I'm no tire expert so explain this. I'm wanting 325/50/15 on a 15x12. I remember reading somewhere that if you put that tire on a 12" rim opposed to a 10" then you will have more tread in contact with the ground but your sidewall will be stiffer??? Explain?

You will be stretching the tire out further making the side wall stiffer.
