Default Need help picking DD/AutoX Tire...

Alright, so I need help picking out front tires for my Z28. It's a street car that sees some autocross, and never gets driven in the rain, at least not on purpose. I want a tire that will stick well for autox, but I don't need a full blown race tire or something that's going to be gone after 10k miles.

The suspension setup on my car is strano springs with konis, and basically tubular adjustable everything with a stock k member. I've got some Bridgestone RE760's on the back in a 295/35/18 and am happy with them, but I wonder if there's a tire I should run on the front for more bite.

I've kinda narrowed it down to a few tires, but if anybody has anything else they love, let me know. Size will be a standard 275/40/17 for the fronts. I work at a shop and can get any of these at invoice cost. I had thought about some Vredstein's but can't get them here easily, so they're out. I've thought about:
Nitto NT555
Nitto INVO
Nitto NT05 (maybe too aggressive)
BFG KDW
Bridgestone RE760
Kumho Exsta XS

Any help would be much appreciated

i dont autox but if it helps i DD nitto nt05's 285/35/18 all around and i love them so far(about 1500 miles on them)...no complaints, great grip in every aspect straight line and great cornering on the street and ive driven in rain multiple times without problems at like 60mph on the highway and they felt fine, so my vote goes to them but they are the only tire ive used out of your list so i may be biased lol

I am currently on Falken Azenis RT615s and I love them. I have new wheels that are going on, and of course you can't get the same tires on the new wheels. So in the name of science, I will be trying the Nitto NT05s. I was originally going to get the Ecsta XSs, but it looks like the Nittos are more in tune with that I want, and that is the closest thing to a rain friendly Dot-R.

So that's my reasoning, and since longevity is an issue, have you considered the Azenis?

the Bridgestone RE760 is a harder compound and is probably leaving a lot on the table when it comes to AutoX or aggressive driving. The Invo's, NT05, and RT615 tires are some of the most popular tires. I know from experience the NT05 will last 10-12k miles. any tire you get will have its life shortened each time you take it to a track though. and I would recommend keeping the same tread pattern on the front as you do on the back.

I have 285/40-17 Kuhmo Ecsta XS on all 4 corners....I love them! They do well on the autox for a street tire...you just gotta play with the pressure to get them right. I found 28 in the front and 30 in the rear was best for me (which is backwards I know but that's what worked best for me!)...and that depends on weather as well but usually I found myself around there.

On the street I run 35 lbs and they do great. Now I don't drive my car in the winter but I will tell you if it's cold outside..these tires SUCK until they warm up. They just don't grab so you'll find yourself spinning some and kicking just a little on the street while the tires are really cold.

They're also close to if not the cheapest...sooooo

I am torn between the XS, NT-05, and Proxes R1-R. Nice to see some people running these types of tires. I am tired of the sloppy rear feel of drag radials.

I would vote for the NT-05. No personal experience with them however I'm intrigued by how they're designed and have heard many positive reviews. I think it would likely be a good compromise between mixed use driving.

Personally, I'm using Nitto 555R drag radials on the rear -- decent traction on the street and at the drag strip, and I can use them on a road course (although that is less than ideal).

I'm running 275-40-17 Nitto Nt05's and so far like them. They are actually quite inexpensive with all things considered, they are decent for holding power and grip well around corners. I think for the price, they are hard to beat.

I would go Kumho XS. These are very good at Auto X.

About the RE670's, I've got more meat in the back, so overall grip is still good, I'm pretty happy with them so far (about 6000 miles). The problem I'm having is the the car just tends to plow pretty bad, but right now it's on BFG G Force Sports on the front so anything is going to be an improvement really

Any supension work? With wider rear tires you are going to push the front end. SOme of the raod curse guys may be able to come up with bars, springs, shocks to rebalance the car.

Strano springs with konis on all four corners, spohn 33/23 chromoly sway bars, tubular LCA's and PHB, both adjustable sphere/poly combo, UMI torque arm with body relocation kit, tubular front lca's.
