Default how much does tire width effect performance?

for a while i disliked my stock ss 10 spokes, and planned on getting some 11inch wheels for the back and a matching 9-9.5" rim for the front......now im kinda liking them....either way, my next et of tires will be 555s or nto5s......how much better would a 315 on the back perform than a 275 on the back if the tire is the same? either way they will be 17 so the sidewall height will be the same.......how much better does a 315 hook then a 275 on say a 500rwhp car? if suspension is setup, how much better will it corner and top? thank.

kind of a vague questions but it's 40 mill wider which is alot more grip. I'm running the 555s and have 450 hp and they hook very well with my Konis/Stranos. All depends on the pavement you are on. I'm running 28 lbs in the rear.

very wide tires with a small sidewall will not hook as well. with 320 at the tires i would start spinning at 75 with a 315/30/18 rt615. Same setup went 1.5x 60' on a 255/50/16 lol. either way you're not going too hook on street tires at that power level. My friend's 408 car made 500 at the tires and spins ET street radials 275/40/17's at 65 and under on the street.

Cornering is a different story. I hooked pretty hard in turns autocrossing with my 315's, not as well with my 295's. Straight line the 295's were better. Hard to find a good all around tire to be honest!
