Which size tires look/ride best?

Which size tires look/ride best? I'm getting a set of 18x9.5 Z06s and I think 275/35/18 will be to low profile for where I live. Down here in New Orleans the streets are really bad, pot holes all over the place. Does anyone have 275/40/18 on their ride? I don't want to go too high of a profile and look like a set of truck tires or too low and damage rims real easy.
