^ Yes that was my thinking as well, so I am mostly ruling out that 17x8.5

18" in that Grand Sport style are:
18X8.5 5X4.75 +56
18X9.5 5X4.75 +40
18X9.5 5X4.75 +57

I assume the bolded one is the best choice overall, as wouldn't a 40mm offset be possible to scrape the wheel wells?

The +40 should be fine, unless the rear-end is way off center. Plus the +40 will give you car a 1.3" wider track then the +56, and the wheels won't look sunk in.

Discount Tire says the 285/35/18 tires won't fit on the fronts, but rear is ok...

I need to find a photo of 18" rims with 275/35/18 tires to see just how narrow that looks.

BTW the widest recommended for a 8.5" wide wheel is a 255.

I dont think they are phasing them out, they have had a problem getting some corvette wheels. Since they only sell Corvette wheels...that means they are just low on supply. Give it time, things will get better.

I'm looking for a set of 4 17 inch SS wheels for the 1998-2002 Camaro. I'm currently with the stock 16 inch wheels and am convinced that the 17 inch wheels with a shorter sidewall will help increase the handling of my car.

Anyone have a pic of these AFS wheels in the +38 offset? One of the reason I do not like OE 17x9.5 wheels (Or any other wheel in there numerically high offsets) is because when you lower the car, the wheels get sunk in.

Also, do the AFS Wheels look identical to the ZR1 DD's? I'm trying to think how an AFS +38 front set and another vendors 17x11 DD ZR1 with a +50 offset would look on a 1.25" lowered car.

I know it would be almost impossible to know, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

Thank you to those who replied and explained things in such great detail. I finally "get it" and can order my new wheels accordingly. I've been unsure of doing so since I didn't understand the whole offset thing clearly enough. If I don't get it, I don't do it, period. I had three individuals tell me what to do, and I wouldn't until I fully understood what I was doing. Btw... all three were WRONG. TY again.

The wheels look better when they aren't tucked so far into the wheel wells. That's what we are getting at. Wheels that stick out a bit give the car a more aggressive look.
