Yea thats a defective tire. Thats acually not been rubbing anything there would be marks else wear to show if the quarter touched it. Just an economy style tire that wasn't taken care of before you got it. possibly got the tire too hot. Ive only seen a tire split like that 2 other times and these also could not have contacted the fenders or quarter panels of the vehicles they were on.

I had all of the other tires gone over twice at two diffrent places and it cracks (slits) only apeared on the one side wall of one tire. I had just never seen anything like that before. I am kind of greatful that the tire had a screw in the tread that was causing a leak. Who knows how long i could have ran on it with those cracks because while aired up, mounted and on the T/A they were practically invisable. What would have happend if i had to take a HARD right turn... could have been bad...

Those are drying out. the oils in the tire are coming out causing the rubber to harden and crack there. Looks like regular old dry rot. Car sit on a lot for a bit?

I bought these TTII's from a guy that came with the tires for 700 bucks. Both the front and rear tires are like new but like the pictures show the rear tires are dryrotting. The guy that I bought them from told me he had just bought his car not long ago and that the guy who had his car previously didn't drive much and it just sat there. Hence why the tires are dryrotting.

I'd replace those. I had Kumhos come apart at the tread. No obvious dryrotting, but the way that rot looks, the tread could separate form the tire.

continental tires are notorious for the tread seperating from the side wall in cracks just like those but i see people rolling around on them like they're brand new Not sure if its because they let them sit alot usually or the tire its self is poorly made either way i wouldn't put conti's on my car for the reason that i'd be afraid it could seperate like what you said happened. I haven't seen a kuhmo shred "yet"

I won't buy Kumhos again because of that. BFGoodrich, Bridgestone, Nitto, and Yokohama have all been good to me.

Michelin if you can afford them are usually very good, but aren't usually worth the premium over Nitto/Toyo from what I've seen.

on a normal every day car i'd choose michelin I put defenders on my fiance's car and i couldn't be happier quiet and great year round traction. For a tire i'll probably burn up i'd get something cheaper. Only reason i have michelins on my car now is they were free
