i would say 7 years max and thats if they looked perfect. i had my car 8 summers 23k miles but really started to worry. is your life worth a new set of tires? you could have a blowout at 100 plus & game over.

I replaced them. Got a great deal on the Goodrich G Force Super Sport A/S. Installed for under $500...overall cheap insurance to not ruin the car or get killed trying to save few bucks. They are sticky tires and handle great.

I forgot to mention that the tires on there were H rated Bridgestones that the previous owner installed, not Z-rated tires. It was worth the price to get that old rubber off of the car.

[QUOTE=
No, they are the original KDW design from BF Goodrich, prior to the current KDW2. I don't particularly like the "flame" pattern that the modern KDW2 uses, and I'm also not willing to put any of the asian made tires on this car (I try to buy American whenever possible), so my tire options are limited for the 275/40/17 size. I guess I'd probably do the BFG Sport Comp 2 at this point, since it's closer in appearance to the old KDW and still very affordable.[/QUOTE]

I am in the same spot as you are. I love the KDW and can't find them anywhere. I even emailed BFGoodrich and asked then why. All they tried to do is sell me on the comp 2s. If I could find four original KDWs I would still buy them today. I am thinking of going with the Comp 2s or the Nitto nt05.

Several things could happen at 100+ that could change your life for the worse (or end it) - especially on the street, since street cars seem to be the topic in this thread. If safety is truly paramount to you, then I would suggest to avoid such speeds in general, regardless of tire age.

The worst part is that they informed me that the old KDWs were (and possibly are) still in production in certain sizes long after they were discontinued in the 275/40/17 size. It's too bad, I wish I had bought another set right before they were dropped.

It'll likely be a few more years before I consider tire replacement, but I imagine I'll have to go with the Comp 2s at that point. KDW had the perfect blend of appearance and performance; no idea why they had to mess with a good thing.
