Default Wheel stud/nut measuring?

I have searched for hours and can't find the info I need.
Currently i have my Race Stars on my car, with Shank Style lug nuts.
If i keep the current lug nuts, I need to run a stud that is 2" longer (to pass tech). That would look pretty damn dumb when i put my street wheels back on.
Does anyone know how to properly measure the shank length on a wheel?
I would like to get a shorter shank lug nut, and a slightly longer wheel stud.

thanks in advance,
Jef
