Default snapped a wheel stud. hard to fix?

hi guys, my friend tells me to change a wheel stud you have to take apart the rear, remove the axle tubes, etc. My father says you just have to take off the caliper, and some little things. Who is right? is it really a big ordeal just to change 1 wheel stud or what? has anyone here had to do it before? and if so what all is involved in it?

If I remember correctly, just take off the caliper and rotor, and pound out the old stud with a punch and hammer. To get the new one in, use a bunch of washers between your lug and the rotor, and tighten the lug unit the stud slides into place.

Which rear? Not too tuff. If you got C clips you'll need to open the diff., and pull the C clip. If not you'll just remove the backing plate bolts and the axle will slip right out..... or.... you can cheat... and remove the caliper/disk/ABS sensor. Rotate axle until the stud lines up w/the "hole" in the dust cover. Knock the old stud out/insert the new stud. Press it in w/a socket wrench/washers.

It usually takes two hits, out and in, with a dead blow hammer.

I just changed one on the rear of my tcs rear. I took out the abs sensor and that hole was perfect for the stud to go in/out WITHOUT removing the axle.

You do not have to remove the axle. Just remove the brakes, remove the ABS sensor, knock the stud out, and pull it back in with some washers and a lug.
