Tire Size Confusion

Tire Size Confusion
Hello, I have an 02' Camaro Z28 with aftermarket 2008 competition gray 17" C6 wheels. The tires on them are 275/40/17's all around. I just purchased a set of 2008 17x8.5" satin black C6 Z06 replicas. I was on a website looking at tires. The tires I was looking at had this statement "Works Front and Rear with 17x9 ET50 or higher or with 17x9.5 ET48/49. Otherwise Rear only. Lower offset wheels may require fender modification/and or lip roll for proper fitment." And The Tire Rack said that the 17x8.5" wheels that I just purchased are too narrow for that size of tire. Any experience with this tire/wheel combo?

You can run a 275/40/17 on an 8.5" wide wheel.
However those wheels are going to look goofy IMO on the car because they are going to be tucked way into the fender. If you can return them I would and get a set of the 9.5"/10.5" wide versions.
