Default Wheel backspace measuring tool

I have seen some old posts about people talking about this. One even talked about renting one after he bought it.

I am in the stage of my chevelle build where I need to figure out wheels. I see a couple options out there for measuring tools, but they go from 90-500 dollars. I am thinking that means there is a huge difference in the way they work and how easy they are to use.

Is there any recommendations or anyone who would rent me theirs out there?

The one I was looking at is something like this and maybe this is my best bet:

I used the Percy's WheelRite. Way too much money for the plastic tool you get but it actually works quite well.

That is the one with the wire to make the tire height correct?

Use a straight edge clamped to the wheel mount surface on the rotor and a tape measure?

Same thing. Jack up the car and place jackstand under LCA to load suspension. Then turn wheel and check for clearances. It should get you close.
