The 2002 Formula I recently acquired came with a set of replica C6 Z06 wheels in 17 x 9.50.
I had the tires removed to clean up the wheels before installing new tires. Here's what I found.
I think most shops would refuse to install tires on these wheels. All four have similar areas of peeling and corrosion to varying degrees.
What do you guys think?....I don't mind wheel shopping....gotta get tires anyway...LOL

 

I doubt they would "refuse" to install tires on those, I don't see any serious safety issue. But you might have a slow air leak at the bead, they might have to ground that area smooth all the way around, and then really pile on the bead sealant.

But if you want new wheels, no point in trying to fix those...

 

Geez! Been there done that with the grinding. Did it for over 10 years until finally the tire shops said 'no more'. The leaking was a real pain at the end. If you need new tires, definitely start fresh with new rims. I've been tickled with my new set.

For what it's worth, my 02 Z28 has a factory chrome split spoke wheel with worse looking bead aka peeling issues. Tire shop had to grind and polish several spots and use bead sealant. That wheel has a slow leak even after having tire was removed and resealed. Had to have more grind and polish. It isn't too bad needs air ever few weeks. Sitting over winter wheel will leak down to 5 to 8 pounds of air. Have put up with for four years.

Next set of tires car is getting new wheels.
