315s on 9 inch rim

A couple of guys I talked to tonight had said they had used 315 Nittos on there stock nine inch rim. (96 ss) I was wondering if anyone else had done this and if so what it looked like..eg. bulgy at sidewalls. I have a firehawk and want to get as much tire to the ground as possible, just wondering if this was an option or should I stay with the 275s? Thanks

I just took my 315's off my 9" WS6 rims. They looked okay as far as sidewalls, but the handling was a little iffy. I ordered the ZR1 rims in 11's to correct the problem. You can send your Firehawk rims to be widened to 10.5 inches to make them fit right. The other thing was there really wasn't any benefit to the setup. The tire didn't flatten out on the rim, therefore the tread was not flat. The edges of the tires were not making any contact. I think wheels america is supposed to be a good place for getting rims widened. I wish they made Firehawk rims in 11", I love the look of them.

The Cobra guys are putting Nitto 315's on their stock wheels. I am not sure if their wheels are 9" or 9.5". Anyways, 315 Nittos are not as wide as other 315 brands. I think it's safe on 9.5", but may not handle too well. 9" would be scary I think.

Holy **** - it's like every week that this question is asked. Every tire manufacturer that I'm aware of publishes recommended wheel widths for each of their particular tire sizes. I've never seen any of them recommend anything less than 10.5" width for a 315 tire. So, bottom line is that just because it fits doesn't mean its a smart move.

Well, I have seen 315 Nittos on 11" ZR1's, and the wheel sticks out a little more than, or is EXACTLY flush with the tire. There is absolutly no curb protection.

I had 315 Nittos on my stock SS wheels 9". They were bulgy as far them sticking out from the rim. I liked the way it looked but other people dont like the way it looks it just a matter of opinion.
