Angry Did I Get Hosed?

I bought these chrome ZR1's from a guy on the board. He said they had curb rash (which I was able to see on pics he sent) and that their condition was a 7-8. He said nothing about the corrosion spots all over them (see attached pics) and I could not see them in the pics he sent me (the pics were not this close-up and the wheels were dirty).

When I complained about the spots he said they would just buff out with some Flitz so I told him I would be willing to try it but I did not think polish would work. I ordered some Flitz with a polish bob ($30 of my money) and tried it but it did not do a thing to the spots - in fact it looks worse now because the wheels are so clean.

Now he is saying that I am being "****" and that I should have expected the wheels to look like this because of the price. They were $600 including tires with about 25% life left (4/32 left of which only 2/32 is useable). I thought the rash was why the price was reasonable and why they would be at BEST a 7-8 condition.

I do not believe that he disclosed the real condition of the wheels and I have asked for him to pay for return shipping and refund my money or to give me $125 to cover the reduced value of the wheels and my time & materials for actually trying to fix them with sanding and polishing (if it is even possible). I was not expecting perfect wheels and could live with some spots but two of the wheels are literally COVERED with these spots and they look too bad to put on my car.

What do you guys think? Should I have expected the wheels to look like this or does he need to make this transaction right?

Steve

You get what you pay for...period. If you buy used **** over the internet, you should always expect the worst. Especially when the seller says they have damage. Don't bitch and moan about it, just chalk it up to experience. No one will ever pay you for you time and materials for trying to buff out some used, damaged rims.

Sorry to hear about your experience bro. It's unfortunate and as far as getting the guy to reimburse you for your efforts to correct the blemishes, I'd have to agree with SDB. I'd probably pitch a fit too but that's the down side to buying things over the internet. I hope it all works out for you and good luck with decision making.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I think the guy should do something to make good on the situation, if he knowing sold the wheels with the spots without disclosing it. I think a little curb rash is one thing, but corrision spots all over is a whole different storey. But the problem is actually getting him to do something about it. You can try couple of options. If you bought the wheels with your credit card or through PayPal they will sometimes help out by mediating between ya'll. Also you could contact the adminstraters of the site since is was with another member. Or you could just talk calmly with the guy and see what he will do. In this situation of dealing with him direct it will just come down to how honest and fair the guy is going to be. I can say one thing is be patient and do not get out of control, because that will only make it worse and it will not get resolved. This is the only bad thing about buying over the internet, but most of the time people will make good on the stuff they are selling. Like I said sorry out your situation and good luck getting it resolved.

Thanks for the replies. As I mentioned, I have asked to return them and get my money back or for some very reasonable monetary consideration but I have not heard back from him.

I guess I will just have to report "ohhiitznik" as a bad seller and live with what I got.

This is true to some extent with new items but it is definitely not true with used items. As most people here can attest, you sometimes get more than you paid for, sometimes what you paid for, and sometimes less than you paid for (as in my case).

Those are chrome? They look polished to me. Sucks if they're chrome, I'd try to get my money back. I get little blemishes like that on my draglites after they're on the car for a few weeks, but they polish out in 5 minutes with mothers aluminum mag polish.

And this is why I will not buy used from just pics on the web. If I buy something used I want to exchange in person.

I sold my chrome ZR1s about six months ago for $450 and they were in damn near perfect condition. Granted there were some really really fine scratches in the chrome, but were talking about being 3-6" from the rim to see them. I even made certain the guy looked at every single rim before he bought them for the exact reason you are on here posting. I didn't want him to have buyers remorse later on that the rims were not "perfect".

Good luck, but in all honesty, move on and learn a tough lesson from this.

How much is it to get them redipped in chrome or powdercoated? NBM cars looks good with powdercoated wheels, but if you want chrome then that's what you will get. I'm sorry to hear what happened to you.
