Default Offset question...

OK, I know these questions are posted all the time. And I have read almost every thread I can find on it. However, I still have a question. I have a Trans Am that has factory 16x8 sized wheels on it. I HATE the way they tuck in so far on the car.

Now, I am working on upgrading to a 17" size wheel, but don't plan on spending a fortune on this. So, I am currently looking at chrome ZO6 wheels to put on it. The 17x9.5 ZO6's seem to either be 56mm, or 53mm offset. My question is, will the face of the wheel stick out a bit further then the stock 16x8 wheels??

I cannot find the offset size of the stock wheels anywhere. My guess is the offset is about the same, which would mean the 17x9.5 wheels would be about 1/2 inch further out just due to the extra rim width. I just want to make sure when I get these new wheels, it is still not tucked in as drastically as it is now.

Thanks for taking the time to read, and let me know what you think.

38 mm huh? If thats the case, the 53 MM 17x9.5 will probably end up sitting in the same area or maybe even in a little further. That sucks.

Can anybody else confirm the 38 MM??? Does it have it stamped anywhere on the wheel?

Well, I pulled out one of my stock 16x8s this weekend and did some measuring. On the back of the wheel it is stamped 16x8 J 55 O . I am not sure if the 55 is the offset, but after measuring I DO NOT think it is. The backspacing seemed to measure about 6.25 inches. From research I believe the 53-56mm offset 17x9.5 rims are around 7.4 inch backspacing. So, from what I can figure out, the front side of a 17x9.5 rim will stick out approx .25 inches further then the stock 16x8.

Just in case anyone else is ever searching for some info, maybe this will come in handy.

the 53 - 56 mm range on the 17" Z06 wheels will get you a look identical to the OEM Camaro SS wheel. F-Cars can handle offsets between 38 mm and 58 mm depdning on overall width. To ge the most agressive look, custom wheels are you only choice, or spacers.

OE TA wheels are 16x8 +55. A 17x9.5 z06 wheel +53 will stick out quite a bit farther. First take that new 1.5" of width and split it in half each way. Thats .75" out closer to your fenderlip. Then add in that additional 5mm which is basically another .25" for a total of 1" closer to the fender lip giving you that more aggressive look. As xsta said...itll look like an oem SS wheel. Much better than what you have, but still some room to go. Not to mention...youll also have a 275 tire vs your 245 filling that space in as well

Thanks for all the info guys. Glad to hear the newer wheels will definitely stick out a bit further then what I have now.

And Todd, hopefully I will make a decision on something in the near future and make a nice purchase from you!!!!
