largest tire on a 16x8

I have the stock chrome 5 spokes on the 98Z and I was wondering if I could go with a tire a little wider and taller than the stock 245/50/16 on it?? I need to replace them all the way around and only want to do this once.

I got GSD3's for my 98Z's stock 16x8 rims, but they are 10.5 inches wide. They RULE.

EDIT: oops forgot, they ARE 245/50/16's too. weird huh?

255/50/16's are nice, but hard to find now.

255s are found in the BFG drags. Hoosier makes 265s.

Not comfortably. I wouldn't go wider than a 255, personally.
