Default SomeOne Please Help Me.....

I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I can't really seem to come to a conclusion on what to do... I have a 98ss and it has 9.5 zo6 all the way around... but everytime i look at it, something is wrong with the picture... The rear tires just aren't big enough, I would like to know what is the biggest size tire you can put on this rim.... thank you!!!

Assuming 17" diameters. 275/40ZR17 is the perfect tire. A 285/40ZR17 can fit, but not ideal.

Nothing else fits per manufacture recommedations and I will "edit" anyone that encorages differently . . . .

Question

Is there any other reason that a 285/40/17 isn't ideal besides manufacture's recommendation? I'm assuming the bigger/wider the better until a point where fitment problems/saftey issues come into play.

/just curious

what brand of tires do you have?
From my experience, BF Goodrich tires have the widest footprint.
Put a 275/40/17 Nitto or Goodyear next to a BFG and you will see what I mean.
The 275 is the section width of the tire at its widest point. (sidewall bulge to sidewall bulge) So the actual tread width is not going to be the same between manufacturers.
I had 285/40/17 BFG KDW on my 35th anniversary wheels. They were a bit tough to install but they fit and looked fat.

No other reason. 285, minimum wheel width is 9.5", ideal rim is 10"

well i the car with kuhmo exsta something something... they are some cheap *** tires, but i didn't buy them cause i would never do something like that to something that is loved!!! i want to try the goodyear tire I read a lot about it and they seem to be the best out right now... I have the bfg 315 on a set of zr1's but its on my 97ss and its stock and for some reason it don't spin the tire at all.... but i was thinking i should try something new...
