17"s or 18"s

I am going to buy a set of C6 Motorsport machined wheels soon and I am having trouble deciding on which size to go with. I know both will look awesome but how much performance am i sacrificing going with the 18"s over the 17"s? Right now my car is mostly show no racing yet. I plan on racing it in the summer and working on the engine after i get the paint job and all the appearance mods first. Also does anyone have a pic of a trans am with the C6 motorsport wheels on them?
Also how does 295 on the back and 275 on the front sound?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your going to loose acceleration due to the larger diameter in the tire, but prolly not by much.

how wide can you get them. if you can get the 17X11 then I would get them. 18's would look very good though. when you start racing you may want to get a separate set of rims to race with, that are lighter
