Offset, backspacing - arrrrhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
So reluctantly, I'm going to have to ask a question.
I'm after some new rims. American Racing - Torq-Thrust II Classic Custom Offset (Series CL205) 2-piece wheel, painted center/polished rim to be exact.
I want 17" rims with a 265 width front tyre and either a 275 or 285 width rear.
My Camaro is running STOCK suspension and STOCK ride height. And I do not want to attack the arches with a hammer or use wheel spacers.
All I want is a direct bolt on with NO midifications.
So from this list (from American Racing's website), what offset/backspacing and rim width do I need?
17x9.5 Rev. 3.0-3.50
17x9.5 3.75-7.25
17x8 Rev. 3.0-3.50
17x8 3.75-5.75
17x7 Rev. 3 only
17x7 3.75-4.75
17x11 Rev. 3.0-5.0
17x11 5.25-8.0
17" x 9.5" with a 46 mm offset and 7" of BS
17" x 11" with a 46 mm offset and 7.75" of BS
Front tires a 275/40ZR17 is perfect.
Out back, well, depending on your tire choice body mods are possibly emminant. To be safe a 285/40ZR17 will go on the 11" wheel, but basicall defeats the entire purpose of an 11" wheel. So the next tire choice is a 315/35ZR17, fits great on the wheel, but can get pretty close to the wheel well lip, especially on a Camaro. Tire makers widths very between tire to tire, so it is a gamble.
To play 100% safe run 4 17" x 9.5" with 275/40ZR17 and all will be good.
If I go for the 17 x 9.5 all round, should I run the same offset/backspacing for the rears as the fronts are?
