A friend got two different sized tires on his new wheels. The rear has a diamater of approx 27" while the front has a diamater of about 25". On the highway, the ABS INOP light illuminates. I know the vettes have different tire sizes, can this be tuned out?

 

All I can tell you is that I have read that the fbody ABS system does not like different overall size wheels/tires front to back. I know people stagger tires but normally the overal height of the tire/wheel needs to be similar front to back. You could always delete the ABS.

To put in another way if you use P275/45/17's in front you can use a P275/35/18 in the back and the overall wheel/tire size is almost the same. If you used a P275/35/17 in front and a P275/35/18 in back that changes the overall height and the ABS will give you issues.

The overall tire diameter has to be the same for both front and rear.

 

You can change the size of the wheel to smaller or larger, but as long as the tire profile compensates for it and the overall diameter stays the same, you're fine.

If you start changing sizes and the car knows this? It isn't going to function properly.

 

I was told when I put my 15x10's on with a 325 Nitto *doing today* to just pull the ABS fuse.

 

The wheels/tires need to be close to the same diamater or the ABS will not work in an fbody. Pulling the fuse is the same as what your friend has now, no ABS. Your two options are have the tires/wheels be the same approximate diameter front and rear or live with the ABS not working. You can certainly pull the fuse, pull the bulb but the result is the same unless you fix the mismatch. Probably not what your friend wants to hear but those are his only real options.

 

Remove ABS, it is going to drop up to 20 lbs w/traction control. Even by just pulling the fuse, you're brake bias will be off..
