How far off are speed ratings?
How far off are speed ratings? How far past the speed rating is a tire actually good for? I know it's not recommended to exceed them. But, I have someone on another board that doesn't believe that they under rate them on purpose. Surely there is someone on here that knows this besides me?

Drive your tires as fast as you are willing to take the risk. Just don't kill anyone but yourself.
I think there's a technical article on TireRack about this or maybe it's about proper air pressure but it touches on similar points. You might want to check that out.
As far as the under rating on purpose thing... that's like saying that you can't go faster than the posted limit on the highway because the corners are "designed" for certain speeds.

how about just getting a tire with the speed rating for how fast you go... i highly doubt you're driving over 200mph.
