Pontiac wheel question? I took this from http://www.tacreationsusa.com/firebi...els.htm#Chrome. How can this be possible? I thought chrome wheels were introduced in 1995. If this is true, how can I be sure the wheels I get from lakeshorewheelandtire.com will fit my 97 Formula? Their site says 1993-2002.
Chrome wheel interference problems on 93-96 F-bodies : Chrome wheels will not fit on rear of 93-95 Firebirds due to a lack of clearance between the wheel hub and the rear axle shaft. Factory 93-96 axle shafts have a 70.75 mm diameter hub face, while the 97-02 Chrome wheels have a 70.5 mm diameter hub opening. Minor grinding/machining is mandatory for installing those wheels on 93-96 models

The fix for this is easy. Their is only a .25mm differance in diameter.
Take a dremel and sand out the inside of the wheel hub hole.(Large hole in the middle) You don't need to take out much, only about the thickness of a human hair. JUst sand out all the way around. The hub doen't center the wheel anyway, so it won't matter. The lugs center the wheels.

My 97 Formula actually came with chrome wheels from the factory, but the wheels are starting to flake. I'm thinking about buying new wheels of the same kind. I guess my real question is this: Are all Firebird 16x8 chrome wheels the same?
