offset and back spacing for 2000 LS1 camaro?
what is the offset and back spacing of the my camaro wheels?
i understood what is offset but i didn't understand what is exactly the back spacing? any one can illustrate to me what is back spacing?
thanks.
Offset is the distance between the lug mounting plate and the center line of the wheel. There is also negative and positive offset, current F-Cars have a positive offset. Meaning the face of the wheel is move outwards to the face of the wheel.
Back Space is the distance from the lug mounting plate to the absolute rear face of the wheel.
One cannot dermine Offset from Back Space with out knowing the thickness of the rim bead, and that thicknes varys from wheel to wheel. But 1/2" is a good assumption and gets you close . . .
So a mathmatical example:
Say you have a 10.5" wide 38 mm offset, what is the "assumed" BS?
FYI there are 25.4 mm in a inch . . . So 38 mm = 1.5" . . .
BS= (10.5 / 2) + 1.5" + .5"
Gives us and assumed BS of 7.25" . . .
Now for your wheel choice,
The 8.5" wide wheels I'd say you want and offset of about 35 mm. Run a 245/40ZR18 tire.
The 10.5" wide wheels a 44 mm offset would be good and a 295/35ZR18 would be a nice sized tire. You caould go all the wya to a 315/30ZR18, but the wider the tire the more likely there will need to be some minor body mods.
