Default Stripping painted ws6 wheels

I can get a great deal on some silver thin-spoke ws6 wheels. I just dont want them silver. Chrome would be nice but I think it is expensive (anyone with experience getting wheels chromed please chime in) so I would like to polish them if possible.

Do the wheels have to be sandblasted or can I just use stripper to get the paint off? How involved would the polishing process be when all coating is removed? Has anyone tried this?

I know Joshua at chromeandperformance.com can do this but if it is possible to do it myself I would like to go that route.
