Valve stems hitting brake calipers?
Valve stems hitting brake calipers? Hey all, I bought some Boyd Coddington JYDs for my car this year from DTD. The mounting holes for the valve stems are not in the front of the wheel, but in the back or barrel as I have heard it called. I had problems getting them on the car, due to the valve stems hitting the brake caliper. I bought the shortest stems I could find locally, and managed to get them on the car. Even with these short stems, there is not enough room to put the caps on the stems or they will hit the caliper.
Then I went the other day to have my tires balanced and rotated, and when I picked up the car, I could hear the valve stems hitting and had to have the shop put the tires back where they were. I still have the stock calipers. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do to fix the situation? I love the wheels, but this is an annoying feature that I surely did not expect. Oh yeah the wheels are 17x10.

Hmm that's the first time I've heard of that. I didn't know they had the valve stems back there. My old Enkei Wins were like that, but they had a hard valvestem that tucked close to the barrell and ran outside to the face of the wheel.
I've used low-profile aluminum valve stems on some of my racing wheels in the past. They're super-light, and very short. I can't seem to find the aluminum version anymore, but you can find a brass version from Longacre Racing (they have a www) and other places. They may be even shorter then the valve stems that you're using now. These are bolt-together stems, BTW.
I had 18"s, without any problems. You might wanna give Discount a call and see what they recommend...

you need whats called a lowjack valve. it comes outta the barrel and does a quick 90 degree turn. which ever discount you go to can get them, tell them to call wheel pros or wtw or wsi if they done have them in stock

My dad has Boyds and he has some that are flush mounted. To add air you unscrew a small screw and then screw in your valve stem.
