Need new tires
My criteria (in order) are:
1) Handling - It's my weekend driver. I'm not a big racer, but I like to get spirited at times. Given a choice, I'll take stiffer sidewalls over extremely sticky.
2) Wet/dry traction - While it's only a weekend driver and I don't tend to take it out when it's raining, I'd at least like to be ABLE to. This is one of the reasons I'm not really looking at drag radials.
3) Value - Not just price, but price versus treadwear. Sure, I can get cheap tires, but if they wear out after a year of weekend driving, that's not a good deal. Also, the fronts and rears should match, so I can rotate them.
4) Road noise - I had a set of BFG KDW's (original tread pattern) that I liked, but they were a little on the noisy side.
5) Appearance/tread design - Not the most important thing on my list, but it still matters.
Based on those criteria, I've narrowed my choices down to (in no particular order):
- Nitto NT555 - I have no experience with these tires.
- BFG KDW/KDW2 - Good tread design and seemed to last well (on my stock rims), but as I mentioned before, they can be noisy.
- Goodyear Eagle GSD3's - I had these tires on my ZR1's because I wanted matching front and rear tires, while still having 315/35/17's out back. They were good overall tires, but expensive as hell.
- Dunlop SP5000's - I have no experience with these tires.
Thanks,
