Default TTII vs. Privat Profil on a Red SS

I already own a new in box set of TTII's, but for some reason I'm having second thoughts. I can probably get rid of the TTII's pretty easily. How would silver 18" Privat Profil's look on a red SS?

BTW I don't care that "everyone has torq thrusts". I'm concerned about the Profils only coming in 9.5" wide, and the cost of 18" tires. That having been said, help me decide.

This is the car they're going on. It's just lowered an inch on Hotchkis springs, so I don't know if the 18's will look out of place.

TT2's look classy on just about any F body....I'm ordering black TTM's tomorrow for my silver Z. These cars just beg for retro styling, keep the TT2s IMO.

Both look pretty good, im sure less people have the privat profil's ... but if it were mine i'd still go with the tt2's, i like them better.

18" tire cost isn't really that bad anymore, but I still prefer the TT2's over the Privat's

Too bad everyone has the TT2s though, I guess I would rather be different and go with the Privat Profiles plus they look bad ***.

Go with the privats the TT2 are way to hard to keep clean . I know 3 people that have them and all 3 say they are a pain in the butt to clean and bring the shine back.

I have Privat Profil wheels in black. I love the look of the wheels and the lip. I bought them in March 06, drove the car maybe 500 miles, then at a car show noticed a piece of clearcoat gone on the lip, so had a dull dime size spot. Let the car sit most of winter and when I went out one day noticed multiple spots of clear coat coming off the wheels, so I started looking close at the other wheels and another one had a spot starting. Since it was winter I didn't notice it much, but now it looks like crap.. I ended up getting a in store credit from discount tire and now going to buy a different wheel. I hate to have to get something different, but quality control is a ??? on those wheels now. The rep even told me there have been issues with that. The wheels are very hard to get, yes available, but curb one and you will be a few months getting one and at any time they may stop making them. Plus many places that have them make you buy at least 2 at a time. As much as I like them, I would avoid the Privats. Also, I never used a harsh cleaner, just car wash soap in water, never drove through a dirt road, car is under a carport and only has been driven a total of 1,500 miles in around 14 months.

Hm..I'd be PISSED if my rims started to peel. I may steer clear of the Privats now that you mention that.

Alot of folks have the TT2's for a reason. They are an amazing looking wheel and a perfect fit for an f-body.

That said, I went with the TTm's as my car is a daily driver. I love the tt2's, but the maintainence on a polished wheel SUCKS if you drive it every day.

The Privat Profil wheels are available at discount tire(special order now $190 in 17x9.5, slightly more in 18's), but they used to be more available until alot of the F Body people seen the bolt pattern was the same as factory, which as we all know there are not a ton of options like other cars. I love the wheels, but they really look like crap with the spots all over them and the spots are down to the lip. If I could get the lip chrome for a good price I might think about keeping them. I waited a year to find these and not even 6 months later they started messing up. I would think it was from rocks etc, but the first spot I noticed was after I had only put about 200 miles on the car after the new wheels. Then it just started spreading. Those spots in the pciture are not as bad as others on the wheels, even on the edge on the outside lip there are much bigger spots peeling. Hard to show in pictures with the reflection from the finish.

what they looked like the first day on.

one thing to consider also is whether or not you will ever be upgrading your brakes to a larger size. TTII's have problems fitting even the C5 brake upgrade without grinding the calipers. personally, i don't think you should ever have to grind anything on the wheels/brakes in order to get it to work properly....just seems "tacky" to me. this is the exact reason i will not be getting TTII's.

that's why you can just get them all polished up and looking immaculate, then get them clear-coated. or just get them chromed. problem solved.
