Backspace question after reading sticky...
I am looking at a set of wheels. After reading the sticky above (excellent writeup) I am still finding myself confused about the backspacing of the wheels. It shows that with a 9.5" wide wheel, +38 to +48 mm offset, you could run a 275 tire front or rear. My question is, at what backspacing does this hold true? Is this backspacing the same for all examples in the sticky?
Thanks
Andy
Offset is the distance from the center line of the wheel to the backside of the lug mounting plate in mm.
Backspace is the distance for the rear most surface of the wheel to the lug mounting plate.
Slightly related. . . . One can get an approximation on the BS from offset assuming the rear rim bead is 1/2" thick.
A 9.5" wheel with a 38 mm offset should have ~ 6.75" of BS
A 9.5" wheel with a 48 mm offset should have ~ 7.14" of BS
And if that was not bad enough I also found out the hard way that there can be variances in rim widths by as much as
1/4" this is with the same manufacturer with the same size rim just different model.
