Default y2k vette wheels on ta question

My buddy has some 18 x 9.5 and 17 x 8.5 y2k polished wheels w/ f1 tires all around (245/45/17 and 275/40/18). They are OEM from what I know (will make sure). I will be putting these on my 98 TA. I have searched and found that I will need 4 spacers in the back (3/4) to make them 50mm. I would like to know if this is necessary as the guy who made the thread I found said they were to look right. My other question is do I need to find vette lugnuts for these, or can I use my current ones without looking strange?

I searched, and could not find answers for these questions.

I had those wheels on my LT1 T/A. The only problem I had was the centerbore on the rear wheels are too small for the for the early 4th gen hubs. I got a 1.25" spacer adapter (length of the lug bolt) to get them on. It did make the wheel stick out a bit, kinda like having 315s.

The y2ks should clear fine on your late 4th gen without modding. If you decide to increase, then get a solid spacer adapter. I think a 1" minimum would clear on the wheels with the bolts sticking out at .25" DO NOT STACK SPACERS. You want a good (safe) 6-8 full turns on the lugs.

I think the only problem that may arise is the slight change on your speedometer do to the bigger overall size. Without checking the tire size calc, I think when your speedo reads 60, you're actually doing 63. I ran 275/35 on the rears with something like a .4% increase vs 275/40 with 4% loss. I believe you can get that tuned, but why bother unless you're a serious racer.

And your lugs will work fine. I think the vette lugnuts and covers are smaller in length.

Good luck and get us some pics!
